Holiday Shop Preview!

12.01.2013

Untitled Untitled Untitled Untitled Untitled Untitled Untitled Untitled Untitled Untitled Untitled Untitled Untitled VSCO new

Here is a preview of the garments I will be selling in my little holiday shop. I have already sewn a few garments for each style so each garment listed will be ready to ship. I am hoping to do a second shop update before Christmas, depending on how much time I have. I have another Henriette dress in the works made of navy blue corduroy, but I didn't have time to finish it. Here are the garments I will be listing in my shop with the sizes available:

Wool Cape: one size fits small/medium (3)
Plaid Henriette Dress: sizes small (1) and medium (2)
Red Corduroy Pullover Top: sizes small (1) and medium (1)

I will update here when the shop is open. Look for it early this week!

Autumn Outfit

I am absolutely loving the color plum/berry this season. I didn't realize it was "my" color, but I kind of think it is. This is the second sweater in this color that I've purchased already this season. Maybe I'm over doing it, but these colors are so rich and warm for the season and I can't help myself! I wish I had re-painted my nails last night. I've been wearing a deep purple, almost black, nail polish a lot lately. It's a cheap brand of polish, but it's a great color! As you can see I also decided to keep the boots! I wore them out for the first time today and they were surprisingly comfortable. I'm notorious for buying shoes that fit poorly or are not comfortable to wear (ask Jed, he will tell you). I'm working on getting rid of all the shoes that are uncomfortable and replacing them with shoes that won't kill my feet!

I'm really enjoying this season and the crisp air. Now that the leaves are almost all gone from the trees in our backyard, it's a lot easier to see the mountains in the distance. In the morning the mountain tops are a lovely white. Can you imagine living on the top of the mountain where it snows every morning?

Speaking of winter... I'm working on a little shop update that should happen in the coming weeks. Hopefully it will be open the end of November (fingers crossed!) or the first of December. I'm planning a little holiday shop and can't wait to show you! :)

New Boots

I have been looking for a pair of basic leather lace up boots for awhile now and finally found a pretty good pair. The leather isn't nearly as nice as some other companies such as Frye, but this style has been so hard to find in my price range. I would adore a pair of A.P.C. boots, but I hate the price tag. So, what do you think? Should I keep these ASOS leather boots or send them back? I also got them in black, but I think I prefer this tan color.

Happy Halloween!

Autumn Sewing: Wool Cape

10.16.2013

Autumn is in full swing here in Colorado and the leaves are changing into beautiful golden colors. I have been thinking about adding a wool cape into my personal fall/winter wardrobe for years now. It probably started when I discovered the gorgeous wool capes from my favorite brand A.P.C. Sadly, they were just a bit out of my price range at the time, so I put the whole cape thing on the back burner. A few weeks ago I was enticed by a wool A.P.C. cape on eBay and instead of getting it, I decided I'd just try my hand at making one myself. So after getting a bunch of work done, I decided to carve out a little time for my own sewing. It's actually really fun to do a new challenging project since I don't really get to do that very often. I used the last bit of plaid tartan from my 2012 fall/winter collection for the lining, which really made the cape "pop," at least when you open it up. Recognize the wool I used? I found the same wool I used on the toggle coat I made years ago (and have since sold) and decided to re-purchase for the cape since I remember it being incredibly lovely to work with. I learned how to make bound buttonholes and discovered they aren't half as hard as they look. The pattern I used was a vintage 1960's sewing pattern, but I'm toying with the idea of making my own design to sell in the shop. Something similar, but different. I love the shape of this cape, but thought perhaps I would draft my design a little fuller along the arms. What do you think? Would you be interested if I made a cape design to sell in my shop?

Happy autumn!
